When I was in primary school, Dad bought a karaoke set and lots of laser discs, showing smiling Europeans in beaches or gardens, and little pink dots that bounced along the lyrics.

Some videos tried to act songs out. This was one of them.

My dad’s tuneless voice would float from the living room, and he’d let me flip the LDs to play the other side.

This, our dogs (afterwards, fish too), repairing things around the home- and the occasional spot of prawning- made up his idea of weekend leisure.
